LETTERS FROM KEVIN

One man's journey to write 10,000 letters to strangers

How This Started

I'm 64 years old. I spent thirty years as an air traffic controller, guiding planes through crowded skies, talking to pilots I'd never meet, helping strangers reach their destinations safely.

Now I write letters to strangers I'll never meet, hoping to reach their destinations unexpectedly.

"Some projects you plan. Some projects plan you. This one grabbed me by the collar and said 'start writing.' So I did."

Here's how it works: I open Zillow, close my eyes, move my finger across the map, and write to whoever lives where I land. No research, no targeting, no marketing strategy. Just pure, beautiful randomness.

What Happens to These Letters

Some reach their destination. Some come back marked "No longer at this address." Some are thrown away unopened. Some are read by people who needed exactly those words on exactly that day.

I have no way of knowing which is which, and that's the point.

Every letter is different. Every address is random. Every word is real.

The Surprising Part

People write back.

They send recipes for biscuits. They ask questions about air traffic control. They tell me about their gardens, their divorces, their grandchildren, their fears. They send photos of my letter on their refrigerators, their desks, their nightstands.

We've been friends for years, some of us. We just didn't know it until the mail came.
